Hey chocolate friend, first of all, congratulations. If you’ve landed on this page, it means you’re pretty serious about “doing the dang thing” as I always say, and I understand how important and exciting and unbelievably scary that can feel all at once.
The truth is, chocolate came out of left field for me. I am a super smarty pants supposed-to-be-doctor, and changed gears quite unexpectedly. I literally started getting into chocolate because I so badly just wanted to feel happy and fulfilled inside. Chocolate touched all my strong points: all the creativity combined with the technical attention to detail, with science and melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness all in one…and then OTHERS’ reactions to my creations?! Oh my!
I have always been one to formulate a plan and execute it to the best of my ability. So I told myself that if I were going to be a chocolatier, I was going to seek out the BEST to learn chocolate from. And for the first half of my career, that’s exactly what I did. I put in the time, worked in multiple chocolate kitchens across the country, took a bunch of continued education courses, worked my butt off, practiced even more at home, and ran a side chocolate business through it all as well.
However, things really changed for me in 2017. I found out I was pregnant and reality instantly set in. My side business certainly wasn’t where I wanted or needed it to be, and I was sick of working under corporate. What kind of example would I be setting to my daughter if I didn't give my all to my dreams? So I made a decision to shift, and let me tell you, it was the best decision ever.
After taking 18 months to solely focus on being a new mom, I knew it was time to get back into the game. Only this time, things would be different. No holding back, I was going after everything I ever wanted, and I knew I needed help.
It was very clear to me what I was lacking- business knowledge. I borrowed $6K from Bruno to pay for my first business coach. The lessons I learned really opened my eyes to what was possible and I've been aiming higher and higher for myself ever since.
Codinha Chocolate was born in 2020. Within two years, it grew to peak success as a home-based business, and won numerous awards including Top Artisan Chocolatier Los Angeles 2022 and Best Chocolatiers and Confectioners in America 2023 (The International Chocolate Salon). We’ve had a wild ride and done some crazy things with chocolate, including working LA Chef Con 2022 with Felchlin, transporting 250 chocolate amenities from LA to Vegas, and creating 600 hot cocoa bombs for The Bear (Season 2 premiere).
I am so incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished. In 2021, we started Codinha Chocolate Mentorship- a program designed to truly help chocolatiers run their businesses efficiently so they could make more revenue, make more chocolate, and create a life they love in the process.
We’ve since helped over 70 chocolate entrepreneurs worldwide in a 1:1 container, and hundreds more through our online courses. I know the value of mentorship. I believe in going after your dreams with all you’ve got. And I believe that every chocolatier deserves the BEST chance at success.
Thank you so much for hearing a bit of my story. I cannot wait to meet you. Bruno and I have been in this game for over 33 years combined, and we truly just want to see more happy chocolatiers + good people succeed. Period.

True story, but I used to say all the time that trying to understand business just felt like everything was going over my head. It became an obsession of mine to learn the secrets of the successful. I’d often follow around my chefs with a notebook, and always asked them how they got started in business, which books they read, did they have a business partner, etc.
he thing is, learning chocolate is one thing, BUT learning business is a whole other animal. There’s a lot of moving parts AND let’s not forget the fact that not every single business is exactly the same. Each individual has different circumstances, different kitchen set-up, different equipment, different visions, the list can go on….BUT what is common amongst all of these is that in order for a business to not only survive but THRIVE, you have to know how to build a strong brand, connect with people, understand the numbers, sell your chocolates, build a team to support you, and plan for longevity.
And this is where having a mentor comes in. You can absolutely do it alone, BUT if you want to save time AND money to get results faster….gain clarity in what you’re working towards and feel confident as you do it, mentorship is the way to go. Like I said, true story 🙂.
